New Chef & “Concept” at Coyote Crossing

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Christopher Hora, whose resume includes Spago in LA, has signed on as Executive Chef at Coyote Crossing. The new menu concept is “Global Mexican”. I’m not sure exactly what that means, but a sample menu includes “Blue Fin Tuna and Cactus Apple Ceviche” and “Free Range Boneless Beef Short Ribs en Mole Azteca”. Either way, it should be an improvement from the mediocre, overpriced fare they currently serve.

Also, the roof-top deck will open this May at the West Chester location. FINALLY!

Some non-food news: The Main Line’s own Psychic Susan Samans (of Y100 fame) has her own TV show premiering on TLC this week, called “The Psychic Next Door”, at 1:30 each afternoon. Set your DVRs!

Yo Philly, Cheese Steak Chips are Here

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I tried Herr’s “Philly Cheese Steak” Potato Chips for the first time today. They are one of four new flavors from local the local company along with “Buffalo Wing”, “Honey Mustard” and “Sweet Island”, and fit nicely alongside Herr’s “Ketchup” flavor chips in the strange flavor canon.

The chips themselves taste mostly like, well, potato chips, but do have a light seasoning that tastes somewhat like cheese steaks. I do, however, think they only taste like steaks because they told me it was cheese steak flavor before I bit. If I didn’t know that, I’d probably just say they taste “seasoned”.

And if you are wondering, the “Buffalo Wing” chips taste pretty much like barbeque, and the “Ketchup” ones are barbeque with an extra dash of, you guessed it, ketchup.

Try ’em at your local store or order some here. (You won’t be fighting me for the last bag.)

The Straight Dope on Teresa’s & the Bar Next Door

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

There have been a lot of rumors about the new bar next to Teresa’s — are they blowing out the wall, is it a “beer bar”, or what? Well, Mike from Teresa’s was kind enough to write in and set the record straight:

“Just a clarification on the concept at the old F&H paint store next to Teresa’s. First of all, the concept is NOT MONKS LIKE it will be an extension of Teresa’s. But Teresa’s current location will remain “BYOB” I an not changing this!

The new location will have a bar — my focus will be on wine and beer with a different style of food, but the actual concept is not finished yet so please stay tuned!”

Thanks Mike for clearing that up — we’ll certainly look forward to whatever it is. If you ask me, I love the idea of focusing on interesting beers and wines as a way to seperate you from the all-of-a-sudden crowded Wayne scene. As for food, keep it light — we don’t want to fill up too much before moving next door!

Vivo Replacement This Summer

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

Thanks to a tip from Deane, we’ve learned that a new upscale bar will be opening in the spot that formerly housed Vivo Enoteca. It will feature new American cuisine and be in the same vein as Northern Liberties’ N. 3rd. Sounds fun — hopefully the food will be better than Christopher’s!

La Voce Closed

Friday, March 10th, 2006

Paoli’s La Voce has been “closed for renovations”, according to a sign. Strange thing is, they just started promoting WOW – Wine on Wednesday (via the same sign), where every bottle under $50 was half off on Wednesdays.

Although I’ve never actually been to La Voce, I can’t really mourn the loss. Seemed like a boring red sauce place with little innovation. Again, never been there, but it just didn’t seem like a place that would have inspiring food. Hopefully the “renovations” will include a change of concept as well.
