<p><strong>Floret Restaurant and Lounge</strong> will be opening in <strong>February 2010</strong> at 175 King of Prussia Rd. in Radnor, replacing current tenants Pond and Bistro Cassis. This restaurant is a partnership between Scott Morrison (Nectar, etc.), Chef Dan Kremin (Barclay Prime, Buddakan) and the current Pond ownership. </p>
<p>The menu will be based on regional European cuisine prepared with locally sourced American ingredients.  Says Kremin, “I cook with the freshest, local ingredients that have been prepared in a simple, approachable and familiar way, so that our guests will want to visit and dine with us frequently without spending a lot.”  </p>
<p>Floret&#8217;s 90-seat lounge will offer hors d’oeuvres and small plates along with a selection of original burgers and salads to pair with specialty drinks, craft beers and wines. The 150-seat restaurant will feature steak frites, fish pommes soufflé and numerous other market and seasonal additions such as a house cassoulet, Amish raised chicken coq au vin, braised lamb shanks, chicken liver crostini, lasagna al forno and vegetarian shepherd’s pie. </p>
<p>The name “Floret” is inspired in part by the 1986 movie, Jean De Florette, which was filmed in Provençe. This classic French film starred Gerard Depardieu and Yves Montand, (born Ivo Livi) in Mansummano Terme near Florence, Italy.</p>
<p>Floret will honor all Pond party contracts as well as gift certificates sold under the Pond/Cassis name.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>An interesting <a href="http://www.mainlinemedianews.com/articles/2010/04/01/main_line_suburban_life/news/doc4bb361efd0b72030358666.txt">article</a> in Main Line Suburban Life today reported a bevy of Wayne restaurant news &#038; updates. To summarize:</p>
<ul id="postULs">
<li><strong>Taquet</strong> has been expanded and remodeled (specifically the bar/outdoor area), but nobody has yet to jump on the space. An ice-cream parlor almost closed the deal, but backed out at the last minute.</li>
<li>No news on the <strong>White Dog Cafe</strong>, which is still &#8220;coming soon&#8221;</li>
<li><strong>Pop-Pop&#8217;s</strong> has closed in the former <strong>Wayne Beef &#038; Ale</strong> location. No new plans have been established.</li>
<li><strong>Matador</strong>, the long-awaited Spanish/Mexican tapas joint, has been issued two stop-work issues and a citation for not getting permits for the work to the space, according to Radnor Township. As of last week alteration permits had been submitted but not issued yet by the township.</li>
<li><strong>Anthony&#8217;s Coal-Fired Pizza</strong> is still planned for the ACME shopping center.</li>
<li>A <strong>Chipotle</strong> may appear in downtown Wayne &#8220;soon&#8221; (no further details were given).</li>

<p><em>Update:</em>According to <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/the-insider/Restaurant_notes012610.html">Michael Klein</a>, records in bankruptcy court show that Fellini filed for Chapter 7 protection. Basically, it means that if approved, the corporate assets are sold and it&#8217;s done.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In many ways, Wayne has become the flagship Main Line town. It has perhaps the most defined &#8220;town center&#8221;, with walkable streets, ample parking, and an eclectic mix of businesses. When one thinks of great areas to go out to eat on the Main Line, Wayne surely jumps to the top of anyone&#8217;s list. Recently, however, as we watch one more independent restaurant close and await yet another lackluster addition to N. Wayne Ave., the dining scene seems to be in the midst of a moderate crisis.</p>
<p><span id="more-642"></span></p>
<p>In recent (using the term loosely) years, Wayne has lost independent restaurants Taquet, Mayuree Café, Vivo Enoteca, The Freehouse, Mims Food &#038; Drink, The Freehouse, The Wooden Iron and the Wayne Beef &#038; Ale. Although their quality certainly varied, each of these places offered unique dining experiences. In their place, Wayne has gained three local chains &#8212; The Great American Pub, The Boathouse and now JD McGillicuddy&#8217;s &#8212; that serve generic bar food and emphasize drinking watered-down beer over eating. What does this say about Wayne? Do restaurant patrons not care about quality food? Is the town moving back towards the days of Smokey Joe&#8217;s? Is this just a sign of the economic times &#8212; fewer people going out to eat, and those that do spending less?</p>
<p>All is not lost, of course. Margaret Kuo&#8217;s remains strong. Teresa&#8217;s Café has been the most popular place in town for many years, and with the excellent addition of Teresa&#8217;s Next Door, one might argue that it is now more popular than ever, especially with the lack of other choices. And, the sign for the soon-to-be White Dog Café &#8212; though no longer proudly independent under Judy Wicks &#8212; tantalizes passers by on Rt 30.</p>
<p>At the end of the day, restaurants that execute well and give people what they want will survive, obviously, in Wayne and everywhere else. As for us, we&#8217;re foodies, and we want to see more foodie restaurants come to the area, so we will continue to patronize places that offer that, and won&#8217;t patronize places that don&#8217;t. If you agree, we suggest you do the same &#8212; otherwise the Wayne outpost of Kildare&#8217;s won&#8217;t be far behind.</p>
