Big Shakeup in Berwyn
June 13th, 2009Bistro M in Berwyn has closed its doors (so much for the planned Bistro M Wine Bar), and longtime Berwyn BYOB Meridith’s will be moving from its somewhat hidden current spot to the Bistro M location on route 30 later this month.

I don’t know how well things are going at Meredith’s new location, because the staff there seems intent on spreading a rumor that their Berwyn neighbor, San Nicola has closed. San Nicola closes for lunch in the summertime, but other than that, they are alive and well!!
The location concerns are valid. I can’t count the number of times we’ve driven right past Bistro M without seeing it.
Hopefully Meredith’s will resolve some of its long-standing problems with quality of food, service and over-pricing during this move. If Bistro M, which was much better-albeit a tad more pricey, couldn’t survive the location, Meredith’s has little chance unless it improves significantly. The owners should finally address >2+ years of poor reviews. I hope so. It will take more than a change of location to make Meredith’s a destination.
Moving to Rt 30 would conceivably give Meridith’s a big traffic boost, but the Bistro M spot is about as hidden as a rt 30 restaurant can be — we drove by dozens of times before we even noticed it. Hopefully Meridith’s will figure out a way to remedy that.
As far as Meridith’s quality… though they had many, many problems early on, the last 2-3 times we’ve been there have been great, both for brunch and dinner. We’d encourage anyone who hasn’t been in a while to give them another look.
