Lizbeth Lane Simmer Sauces

lizbeth lane simmer sauce

Lizbeth Lane Gourmet Cuisine, a small company that has cropped up recently in Malvern, is on a mission to transform weeknight dinners with their line of “simmer sauces”. These all-natural, gluten free sauces — including Lemon Piccata, Roasted Red Pepper, Mediterranean Tomato and Marsala & Tarragon, can be mixed with sauteed meat and/or veggies for a quick, healthy, interesting meal. (There’s actually no such person as Lizbeth Lane. But co-founders Rid Francisco and Michael Dernoga, who self-describe themselves as “two 50-something bald guys”, probably felt the need to create an alter ego to better portray their vision.)

A new French Bistro named La Petite Maison will be opening the weekend of March 26, 2011 in Berwyn, sharing the space with the Royal Tea House (where Berywn Coffee Co. used to be). The BYOB is the latest project from chef Maurice de Ramus, who’s had stints at Ardmore’s A la Maison, Philly’s Zen and Cherry Hill’s Onasis.

Dinner only, Tues-Sat 5-10pm. Entress are mid-to-upper 20s. 720 Lancaster Ave, Berwyn, 610-450-6133.

Here’s their opening menu (as written):

BuenaVista Mexican, Malvern (Frazer)

Monday, March 21st, 2011

It’s on the main drag (Rt. 30), but not all that easy to notice. Located in the spot that most recently housed the Great Valley Deli (Collegeville Deli II), BuenaVista Mexican is a small, nondescript restaurant in a small, nondescript strip mall (that also houses Strawberry Bakery) along a nondescript area of Frazer. It is, however, worth finding this place, for hearty, homemade Mexican fare that stands above the more common fast-casual Mexican chains of the area.

Yogo Sano Frozen Yogurt in Wayne

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

A new organic Frozen Yogurt Cafe, Yogo Sano, has recently opened in the space that used to house Cafe Procopio (just above the new Real Pizza location – across from the old Real Pizza location).

Yogo Sano says they are the only frozen yogurt store in the Philadelphia area that serves the highest quality USDA certified organic tart yogurt.

Hogfish Bar and Grill Coming Soon to Wayne

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Hogfish Bar and Grill is coming to 372 W Lancaster Ave. (where Osaka was formerly located – in the same building as Flavor) this June.

It is named for a snapper-like fish native to Florida, and the menu will focus on seafood. Check their website for more details (when they are available).

Our prior speculation that this restaurant was related to the bar and grill of the same name located in Stock Island, Florida, was incorrect.

In unrelated news, Nova Grill is coming soon to 815-817 E Lancaster Avenue in Villanova.

Another McKenzie’s Brew House?

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Pattye Benson reports that McKenzie’s Brew House is looking to open a new location in Berwyn’s Valley Fair Shopping Center, in the former Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse space. No date is available at this time.

(Why couldn’t it be Sly Fox?)

For you township politics junkies out there, a hearing is scheduled for March 7, 2011 to discuss the transfer of Basil’s (Willistown) liquor license to McKenzie’s for this (Tredyffrin) location.
